Lowell Health Department collects Unwanted Medications and Sharps and urges community to “Help Keep Kids Safe”
Lowell, MA – The City of Lowell Health Department will be hosting an Unwanted Medication and Sharps Disposal Day on Saturday April 24, 2020 from 10:00am – 2:00pm located at 341 Pine Street, Lowell. This free event is open to all members of the community who are invited to bring their unwanted prescription and over-the counter medications, liquid medications, inhalers, sharps (including syringes, lancets, pen and pump needles), and expired Narcan to be disposed. This event will be a drive-through event.
Unwanted Medication and Sharps Disposal Day events are part of the City of Lowell’s efforts to reduce the high number of opioid and other prescription medication related incidents that occur in Lowell. By removing medications from the home, residents lower the opportunities for medications to be misused or abused by others. According to the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, two-thirds of teens and young adults who report abuse of prescription medications are getting it from friends, family and acquaintances.
