Structured Outpatient Treatment
Intensive Outpatient Program
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is an option for individuals who opt for outpatient programs but who benefit from relatively structured treatment. IOP provides a structured and supportive outpatient environment for individuals with Substance Abuse Disorder (SUD). IOP is often enrolled in once recovery has been established and an individual is living in the community full-time. IOPs provide enrolled individuals with several hours of counseling per day, up to four days a week, including individual, group and family counseling, relapse prevention, communicable disease prevention, case management, and encouragement of the use of self-help groups. Some programs will conduct regular drug testing to assess for continued sobriety and to encourage patient accountability.
Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP)
Structured Outpatient Addiction Program (SOAP) is a specific type of day programming that provides a structured environment for individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). SOAP is designed to allow individuals in the early stages of recovery a flexible option to participate in intensive counseling, case management, and group therapy services to aid in achieving long-term recovery from SUD. These programs vary in day-to-day structure based on organization, but typically are held five days per week (Monday-Friday) ranging from all day (8 hours) to half-day (4 hours) commitments.
