Mill City Prevention Network

What is Mill City Prevention Network?

Mill City Prevention Network is a group of stakeholders who meet quarterly to plan substance misuse prevention programs, practices, and initiatives in the city of Lowell. Our members strive to incorporate racial equity, intersectionality, cultural humility, restorative justice, and other guiding principles in the work we do to accomplish the following goals:

• Prevent and reduce misuse of alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis among youth in Lowell.
• Adopt a systemic approach to substance misuse prevention and community planning.
• Increase access to and use of evidence-informed programs, policies, and practices.
• Increase and enhance collection and analysis of local data sources to assist in the planning and implementation of substance misuse prevention initiatives.

Am I eligible to participate?

You are encourages to participate in Mill City Prevention Network if:

• You are a young person aged 14 or older who wants to contribute to prevention in your community
• You are a parent or guardian raising school-aged youth in Lowell
• You belong to a community you believe is historically unheard or excluded from local decision making
• You work with or in schools, community organizations, families, or a combination thereof
• You believe you can elevate the group’s ability to create change in our community
• You have lived experience or other expertise related to our goals
• You belong to a community indigenous to the land on which we live and work

 

Participate in the Mill City Prevention Network Family Engagement Survey

The data collected from these surveys will be used to fund initiatives that meet local families’ needs. This is meant to be a first step toward easier and more informed communication between families, community providers, and schools in Lowell — and all for the benefit of local youth and young adults!

Lowell is currently participating in a collaborative Public Health Excellence Grant which includes Westford, Acton, Dracut and Lowell, MA health departments. You may contact our shared Regional Community Health and Wellness Coordinator, to learn more about mental health and substance use prevention programs and efforts:
