Good Samaritan (“Sam”) Law
The Good Samaritan (“Sam”) Law was passed in Massachusetts in 2012, and encourages someone who witnesses an overdose to seek help from professionals by providing the caller, and the person who overdosed, protection from arrest and prosecution for drug possession. The goal of the Good Samaritan Law is to protect people so they are not afraid to involve emergency services as soon as possible. Call 911 immediately if you witness an overdose, administer Narcan, and/or experience symptoms that are out of the norm if you yourself are using a substance; you are protected.
